What is the Army Cadet Force?

The ACF is funded by the Ministry of Defence; it is not the recruiting arm of the Army. However, all Cadets train toward the Army Cadet Force Syllabus, which has many of the Army's skills embedded. Cadets are trained in many other activities and learn many skills which would never become available in the usual "Youth Club" environment.

Take a look at the Activities we do..........

Drill, Turnout & Military Knowledge - Foot & Rifle Drill, how to wear the issued Uniform and Knowledge about the History of the ACF and the British Army Regiment to which you are affiliated.

Skill at Arms - Safety and the handling of issued rifles under expert tuition

Target Shooting - Progressive indoor and outdoor Target Shooting with a number of different rifles. With many Shooting Competitions available for the Cadet to enter throughout the year.

Fieldcraft - Training and practice on Infantry Soldiering skills from basic Camouflage to Platoon Commanders duties

Map & Compass - Navigation skills used during the Fieldcraft and Expedition Training as well as Orienteering Competitions.

Adventurous Training - Rock Climbing, Abseiling, Kayaking, Sailing, Mountain Biking, Skiing, SCUBA Diving, Horse Riding.......... the list is endless

Expedition Training - Expeditions to the Brecon Beacons, the Lakes, Dartmoor, Exmoor & the Yorkshire Moors are regular events. Additionally, exchange trips to Norway, Germany and Canada are available for the more Senior Cadets.

First Aid - First Aid training attaining the Red Cross or St. John's Junior and/or Adult Certificate, as well as casualty simulation exercises with lots of blood and gore.

Physical Training - Sports and basic circuit training to instil self-motivation toward personal fitness. PT instructor courses are also available for the senior Cadet

Duke of Edinburgh's Award- Our Syllabus allows Cadets to achieve the D of E Award during their normal Training

As long as you are in secondary education and at least 12 years old and under 18 years and 9 months you’re welcome to join.
