Dear Friends,
As you know, Trevor Farmiloe has now retired and until
the appointment of a new Vicar the Churchwardens are, by
law, in charge of the parish. Obviously we are not on our
own. We are lucky that in addition to a curate, the Revd.
Mike MacCormack, and a Lay Reader, Mrs Sue Kellagher, we
also have living in the parish two retired clerics well
known already to most parishioners – Bishop Dick Third
and the Revd. Vyvienne Wright But we must remember that
Mike has a full-time job, Sue a husband who is not in good
health and Dick and Vyv are both retired!
We therefore will be relying heavily on the good will
and cooperation of all parishioners and we know, from experience,
that that cooperation will be forthcoming.
Although the diocese will let the Vicarage itself on a
6-month tenancy, the Parish Office will still be functioning
in the Vicarage annexe. The Parish Administrator will be
there on Monday and Thursday Mornings from 9 am – 1 pm
and a rota of volunteers will, we hope, cover the other
mornings. Telephone number still 826113. There will be
an Answerphone in operation at other times.
Services will continue as usual – weekdays (except Wednesday)
- 7.30 am (the morning office). 12 noon (Midday Prayers)
and between 4.45.and 5.00pm. (Evening Prayer) On Wednesday
morning, there will be the usual celebration of Holy Communion
at 10.15. Sunday services will be 8 a.m. Holy Communion
(BCP), 9.30 am the Sung Eucharist and 6.30 pm. Evensong.
On the 2nd and 4th Sundays there will be the 11.o’clock
service for families. Any alterations of this pattern will
be published in the pew sheet, parish magazine and on the
church notice board.
On Sunday, September 9th the Archdeacon of Wells will celebrate
and preach at the 9.30 service and on October we shall
welcome the Bishop of Bath and Wells at the Parish Eucharist.
One of the main problems we will face is – communication.
PLEASE do not hesitate to ring the Parish Office and let
us know if anyone is ill or in hospital or in any kind
of need. At any other time, if it is urgent then ring Sue
or one of the churchwardens and the communication will
be working. As well as the Friends and Neighbours network
which will help, we also have a number of parishioners
ready to give support, so don’t feel that you are expecting
too much of Sue or of us!
We pray that during the time without a Vicar, we can build
on the foundations left by Trevor and hand on to his successor
when appointed a thriving, energetic and financially sound
church which is an integral and valued part of Martock.
With God’s help we shall.
